Updates from WP3 – Structural Liquefaction Resilience & Vulnerability Assessment Methodologies

Under the activities of the work package 3, University of Porto has been developing fragility curves that may predict building damage due to earthquake-induced liquefaction, by using a displacement-based assessment procedure that considers the following projects:

• Estimation of ultimate bearing capacity of a foundation on a liquefied soil deposit;
• Influence of liquefaction on the dynamic response of buildings;
• The development of equivalent simplified soil profiles for easily interpretable liquefaction triggering assessment and for performance assessment of buildings;
• Comparison of different liquefaction triggering assessment methods;
• Estimation of settlement and angular distortion of buildings on liquefiable deposits;
• The influence of the reduction in soil-foundation stiffness due to liquefaction on seismic performance of buildings;
• The influence of differential settlements on seismic performance;
• The development of these topics is also based on FLAC numerical analysis validated by comparison with centrifuge tests results.
